Before getting into this, it's important to understand the difference between a virtual reality (VR) experience and a 360° video experience. They both immerse the user in a particular environment, but the difference, best put by Eric Adams an author at gearpatrol.com, is “In VR you control the experience; in 360 you’re simply along for the ride. Having said that, it can be a great ride.” We are extremely proud and grateful that our friends at HLK, hlkagency.com, engaged us to collaborate and partner on this project. What you're about to view, is our collective first 360° video production.

Look left, right, back, forward, up and down. There’s something to see in every direction. Make sure you’re using the latest version of your web browser. On desktop, 360° videos are not viewable on Safari or Internet Explorer. On your smartphone or tablet, use the YouTube app.

Our task here was to visually show how microbial and chemical seed applied solutions are an important part of the systems approach to yield via a 360° environment for Accelerant® Seed Applied Solutions and Monsanto BioAg™. Shooting, editing and outputting a live-action 360° video can be a challenging task on its own. Creating a fully CG animated 360° video experience in 4K with Spatial Audio is a completely different beast. A beast that we fought. This was a perfect opportunity to collaborate with our longtime friend Frankie Rosa, a 3D/VFX artist. The finished piece debuted at the 2016 Farm Progress Show in various Monsanto Seed Applied Solutions exhibits. Users wore a VR headset that immersed them into a 360° environment that took them on a journey starting from a bird's-eye view of a farm, down into a microscopic view within the soil, and back above the farm. By all accounts, the exhibit was a huge success, which made us very proud.
